At Home Testing vs. Lab Testing

“One of the most common barriers cited for not getting regular testing is the embarrassment or concern of being seen getting a test and the stigma attached to that.”

There are many ways of being tested for STD’s. If you have had unprotected sex with someone other than a long-term monogamous partner it is your responsibility to get tested immediately. Untreated STD’s have long-term consequences including infertility, higher susceptibility to HIV, and severe health issues. You need to protect yourself and your partner/s.

How the STD KIT Works

Our system is very simple; the test kit is self-contained and does not need to be sent to a lab. The results are available within 15 minutes in the privacy of your own home and are extremely accurate with European Certification for use in hospitals.

  • 1. Select the tests that are right for you (if unsure, for piece of mind, get one of each, it is much cheaper to ship as a single package)
  • 2. Follow the instructions included with the test kit (or on our site)
  • 3. Most tests are a small finger prick, or a fluid swab only.
  • 4. Deposit fluid in the test well as instructed and wait for results.

RESULTS

If negative, you have immediate piece of mind.

If positive you now know that you need to keep other people safe and get to a doctor a.s.a.p. These diseases are very treatable.

Take control of your sexual health – Test regularly if you or your partner engages in high-risk behaviors.

Pregnancy / STD Testing

Couples looking to start a family should definitely test for STD’s even if they have been monogamous.

Many STD’s are ‘silent’.  They have no symptoms and can be serious or even life-threatening if contracted during pregnancy. These diseases can have serious effects on the baby and the mother. Some may be seen at birth, while others can take years to develop.

Babies born with an STD have a higher chance of being infected with HIV in later life.

+++

Many STD’s can be passed from the mother to the child!

  • - HIV- passes from mother to child during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and breastfeeding, however if the mother tested and diagnosed and medical steps taken the risk can be reduced to 2%. ALL EXPECTANT MOTHERS SHOULD BE TESTED
  • - Syphilis- can be passed from mother to child, it has been linked to stillbirths, death shortly after birth, and premature births. Those that survive can have problems with their heart, skin, eyes, ears, teeth, and many other organs. It is highly recommended that pregnant women get tested and high-risk women get tested again in their third trimester.
  • - Chlamydia- has been linked to low birth weight and pre-term labor. All pregnant women should be tested. High-risk patients should also be tested during third trimester.
  • - Gonorrhea- has been linked to premature rupture of the membranes, premature birth, miscarriage, and low birth weight. It is important that pregnant women get tested and treated with antibiotics prior to birth.
  • - Hepatitis B- Most risky when mother becomes infected close to birth with a significant chance that the baby will carry the Hepatitis B virus through life (chronic). Some reports have shown a 90% chance of chronic liver disease. All pregnant women should be tested.

Preventing STDs

The best ways to avoid getting an STD is to maintain a monogamous relationship with someone who has been tested and is infection and disease free, or to abstain from sex, including oral sex.

Otherwise it is absolutely necessary to:

  1. Use condoms always (limited protection)
  2. Carry home test kits and test yourself and your prospective partner before unprotected sex

Condoms have limits, they cannot protect against skin lesions that are not covered by the condom. This makes them limited against Herpes, Syphilis, and genital warts, but they are effective against gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV.
